Egypt has expressed deep concern over growing reports of famine in the Gaza Strip, the latest being the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, which officially confirmed famine in the Strip after 22 months of Israel's war and crimes against civilians. Egypt stressed the need for the international community to put an end to the crimes and blatant violations, which have resulted in the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. The statement called on the international community to act firmly against Israel's restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid, which is already available and sufficient to end the famine quickly. Egypt also underlined the international community's responsibility for the crisis, saying that double standards have undermined the universality of human rights, politicised for decades while failing to defend their basic values during Israel's war on Gaza. Egypt welcomed remarks by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who said the famine in Gaza is a man-made catastrophe and a failure of humanity, stressing Israel's obligations under international law as the occupying power to guarantee food and medical supplies for the population.
