Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said on Tuesday it held talks with Japan's Sumitomo Corporation on establishing a new industrial zone – under the developer model – designed to attract Asian investment. SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien met Sumitomo executives on the sidelines of the Egypt–Japan Investment Forum, the authority said in a statement. The discussions also covered investment incentives, free trade agreements, and opportunities in green energy and infrastructure. Talks included potential cooperation in ship bunkering using multiple fuel types and in the production of green hydrogen for export or use in green industries such as steelmaking. Sumitomo may also take part in infrastructure projects within SCZONE, including water desalination plants and a hydrogen service corridor, the statement added.
