Egypt to launch $7.5-b green hydrogen project

Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) is set to sign a new agreement for a $7.5-billion green hydrogen project with an expected production capacity of 1.3 million tons annually, SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien announced.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, Gamal El-Dien highlighted SCZONE's efforts to localise green hydrogen industries across its industrial zones and ports, leveraging rising global demand for green fuel and the zone's strategic location.
Gamal El-Dien presented updates on key logistical projects, including a desalination plant in Ain Sokhna with a capacity of 1 million cubic metres per day across four phases.
The first phase, producing 250,000 cubic metres daily, is expected to be operational by mid-2026. Other projects include a logistics corridor, a liquid cargo terminal, a tank farm spanning 1.5 km2, and a gas network in Ain Sokhna.
