Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sewilam on Tuesday discussed governance measures, institutional development, and the facilitation of licensing procedures at the Shore Protection Authority, as well as the status of ongoing and future works to protect Egypt's northern coast along the Mediterranean Sea. The minister also reviewed proposals for institutional development at the authority. He stressed the importance of governance and institutional reform in improving performance rates, speeding up decision-making, achieving decentralisation, enforcing regulations and laws, and enhancing transparency. He noted that applying governance within the ministry's work is a key pillar of the second generation of the Irrigation 2.0 system. The meeting also covered proposals to modernise the authority and reviewed ongoing works, including the first 2km phase of Alexandria's coast protection from Bir Masoud to Al-Mahrousa, a 600-metre section at Louran to safeguard the Corniche, wave barriers at Ras El-Bar in Damietta, and the second phase of works at El-Obayed Beach in Marsa Matrouh. Preparations are under way for four additional projects to protect low-lying coastal areas in Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, and Damietta. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
