Egypt has increased financing for its National Veal Project to more than 10.5 billion Egyptian pounds ($220 million), the Cabinet said on Monday, as part of efforts to strengthen food security and expand meat supplies. The programme has so far supported about 45,100 beneficiaries in raising and fattening more than 522,500 head of cattle, according to the statement. The project aims to increase the availability of meat and dairy products in the local market while creating jobs in the livestock sector. Specialised committees are carrying out field inspections to provide veterinary and health support to participants. Beneficiaries can apply through their nearest agricultural administration office, branches of the Agricultural Bank of Egypt or the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), or by contacting the Livestock and Poultry Development Department at (0220541463 – 0220541464).
