Egypt's Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir inspected on Sunday the Tebbin Institute for Metallurgical Studies (TIMS) and instructed to form a new committee to enhance the utilisation of Egyptian iron ore, the Cabinet announced. The committee will study and plan the use of Egyptian iron with its current concentration and to combine scientific theories with practical application to subject iron ore to mining processes that reduce its accompanying impurities, thereby helping to reduce dependence on imported iron. This takes into account the current global trend in the iron and steel industry, which focuses on reducing the industry's carbon footprint and addressing environmental impacts, so that Egypt's iron and steel industry can maintain its competitiveness and sustain its exports to global markets. The minister affirmed that the Ministry of Industry is ready to adopt any applicable research or idea issued by the institute and work on attracting a serious investor to establish an industrial project in the field of the research, provided that the research is in one of the targeted industries and that its raw materials and requirements are available in the local market. He pointed to the need for coordination with the Industrial Development Authority to identify the analyses and tests required by some foreign markets for export, which the institute's laboratories can provide, thereby contributing to enhancing their performance and increasing demand from the industrial sector.
