Egypt's Industry Minister Kamel El-Wazir on Monday offered a debt restructuring plan for the local ceramics sector, proposing coordination with the Petroleum Ministry to allow companies to reschedule overdue gas payments with reasonable interest, contingent on consistent monthly repayment compliance. The move, discussed at the 28th Ministerial Group for Industrial Development meeting, also reaffirmed a government initiative linking ceramic producers with state agencies to offset debts through product supply, aiming to stabilise a key industrial segment. Minister El-Wazir also spotlighted ongoing enforcement against the black market trade of used imported electronics — including computers and household appliances — praising the Consumer Protection Agency's efforts to seize illegal goods and clamp down on fraudulent energy efficiency certifications. The minister underscored the importance of these measures in protecting Egypt's domestic industries and consumer markets from counterfeit and substandard products, reinforcing government commitment to market transparency and quality control.
