Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Wednesday that the Arab region has been going through exceptional circumstances since 2011, not just since the events of October 7, 2023. He said this affirms the soundness of Egypt's policies based on balance, non-interference, and respect for state sovereignty. Speaking to cadets at the Egyptian Military Academy, President Sisi warned against media attempts to sow division among Arab peoples. He stressed Egypt's strong ties with fellow Arab states and the need to overcome differences in pursuit of Arab unity. Sisi cautioned that social media platforms can be used to spread rumours and undermine morale, noting that the Egyptian people are confronting such challenges with increasing awareness and vigilance. The President underlined that Arab security is a unified whole, to which Egypt is firmly linked, and that any external interference aims to destabilise Arab nations. He said Egypt has made significant efforts since 2007 to avoid escalation, knowing that the Palestinian people would pay the price in any confrontation. He described the current destruction in Gaza as unprecedented and reiterated Egypt's continued efforts to halt the war, deliver humanitarian aid, and cooperate on the release of hostages and detainees, despite disinformation campaigns targeting Egypt's central role. Sisi added that Egypt has faced serious security challenges for over a decade but has managed to overcome them and continues to make tangible progress despite the difficult regional situation. He noted that geopolitical conditions, including the war in Gaza, have negatively impacted Suez Canal revenues, but stressed that the economic reform path remains on track. He called on Egyptians to maintain unity and solidarity to overcome difficulties and achieve the country's development goals. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
