Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported on Tuesday a trade deficit of $3.41 billion in May 2025. This marks a 17.8 per cent decrease compared to the $4.15 billion deficit recorded in the same month last year. Egypt's export value rose by 4.6 per cent to $4.25 billion in May 2024, driven by increased exports of ready-made garments, petroleum products, processed food, and plastics, according to the agency's announcment. Meanwhile, import values fell by 6.7 per cent to $7.66 billion in May 2025, down from $8.21 billion the previous year. This decrease was mainly due to lower imports of petroleum products, raw iron and steel materials, plastics in primary forms, and chemical materials derived from iron or steel.
