Hong Kong's retail sales rose by 0.7 per cent year-on-year in June 2025 to HK$30.1 billion, provisional government data showed on Thursday, marking a continued rebound in consumer spending. Online sales, which accounted for 8.5 per cent of the total, grew 8.4 per cent from a year earlier to HK$2.5 billion. However, overall retail sales volume, which strips out the effect of inflation, dipped 0.3 per cent year-on-year, reflecting underlying softness in demand. The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) also revised May's value growth to 2.4 per cent and volume growth to 1.9 per cent. In the first half of 2025, the total retail sales value fell 3.3 per cent year-on-year, while the volume dropped by 4.7 per cent. Online retail sales value declined slightly by 0.4 per cent over the same period. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: Y.Yasser
