Hong Kong's total retail sales value in May 2025 was provisionally estimated at HK$31.3 billion, marking a 2.4 per cent increase compared with May 2024, the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) reported on Wednesday. The revised figure for April 2025 showed a 2.3 per cent year-on-year decline. For the first five months of 2025, retail sales value fell by 4.0 per cent compared with the same period in 2024. Online retail sales accounted for 8.3 per cent of total sales in May, with an estimated value of HK$2.6 billion, up 0.3 per cent year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted data showed a 4.1 per cent rise in retail sales value and a 7.0 per cent increase in retail sales volume for the three months ending May 2025 compared to the preceding three months.
