Egypt's Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation has launched the "Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Data Platform for Governorates", a digital platform designed to showcase and analyse SDG indicators at the local level across all 27 governorates, as per a ministry statement on its website. The platform provides a comprehensive overview of progress on each of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, offering detailed performance data for every governorate. It is updated regularly to ensure decision-makers have access to accurate and current information, supporting evidence-based policymaking and development planning tailored to local needs. According to Minister Rania Al-Mashat, the platform is built on internationally recognised methodologies, including those developed by the OECD, to ensure objective evaluation of regional performance. She added that the tool also enhances governance and the efficiency of public spending on development. The initiative builds on two earlier localisation reports issued by the ministry in 2021 and early 2025 in cooperation with UNFPA and UNDP, respectively. It draws on official data from national bodies, led by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). The platform adopts a three main metrics to measure each governorate's progress towards its 2030 targets: the gap from the 2030 target (developed with Baseera, the Egyptian Centre for Public Opinion Research), the required annual change rate, and the relative ranking of each governorate across all indicators. These metrics aim to highlight both achievements and challenges, helping accelerate local progress on the SDGs. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S. Salama
