French consumer spending on goods rose by 0.6 per cent in June 2025 up from 0.1 per cent increase in May, driven by higher energy and durable goods expenditures, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INSEE). Energy spending jumped 3.5 per cent, following a 2.1 per cent rebound in May, as electricity and fuel consumption increased after a dip in April due to mild temperatures. Spending on manufactured goods also picked up by 0.5 per cent after 4 per cent in May, led by a 1.1 per cent rise in durable goods, including a 3 per cent surge in purchases of new cars. Food spending, however, declined for a second month, down 0.9 per cent, weighed by weaker agri-food consumption. Over the second quarter of 2025, consumer spending on goods grew slightly by 0.1 per cent, reversing a 0.6 per cent fall in the previous quarter. The modest rebound was supported by recovering food demand, despite a sharp drop in energy consumption due to unusually warm weather in April and May.
