Egypt's Cabinet on Wednesday approved the formation of a permanent committee to monitor and analyse the country's position in international indices, in a move aimed at enhancing competitiveness, improving policymaking, and attracting foreign investment. The new body, called the Permanent Committee for Monitoring and Analysing International Indicators, will report directly to Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and focus on Egypt's standing in global economic, social, technological, and governance benchmarks. "Improving Egypt's global rankings is a strategic priority," the Cabinet said in a statement, noting that the effort will help shape better public policies, inform strategic planning, and strengthen Egypt's appeal to investors and development partners. The committee will: * Track Egypt's performance across international indices * Coordinate the collection and submission of official data to global organisations * Ensure compliance with international standards * Recommend reforms to improve rankings and address data gaps Chaired by the head of the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC), the committee will include representatives from key ministries, with the option to consult external experts, private sector stakeholders, and civil society. It will also create specialised sub-groups focusing on areas such as credit ratings, business climate, innovation, education, governance, human development, and climate performance. The committee is expected to meet monthly and submit semi-annual reports to the prime minister, Cabinet, and president. Egypt sees better performance in global rankings as key to improving its credit profile, expanding international cooperation, and reinforcing investor confidence amid ongoing economic reforms.
