Shell Egypt announced on Wednesday its final investment decision to develop the West Mena gas field, located in the North East El Amriya concession in the Mediterranean Sea. As per the Ministry of Petroleum statement, Shell will undertake the development and operation of the West Mena field with a 60 per cent share, in partnership with Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) Egypt, which holds the remaining 40 per cent. The project will be implemented in close coordination with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS). The move falls under the first axis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to increase production, specifically through attracting investment and boosting local output. Discovered in October 2023, the West Mena field will be developed by linking it to the infrastructure of the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession, contributing to the reinforcement of energy supplies for the domestic market.
