President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday commended the efforts of the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) across various sectors, stressing the need to boost production, reduce costs to enhance competitiveness, deepen local manufacturing, and localise advanced technologies. During a meeting with AOI Chairman Mokhtar Abdel Latif, President Sisi highlighted the importance of developing local supply chains to produce high-quality components. This, he said, would reduce reliance on imports—particularly in critical sectors—thereby cutting the import bill and saving foreign currency in support of the national economy. He also emphasised the importance of keeping pace with global industrial advancements, while maintaining close coordination and productive integration among ministries, the private sector, and industrial bodies to maximise the use of national manufacturing capabilities. The meeting reviewed developments in AOI's civilian industries, which include transport, electronics, manufacturing of telecom and high-voltage electricity towers, design and production of water and sewage pumps, water and wastewater stations, pipes for water, wastewater and natural gas, clean energy, wood and medical industries. Special focus was given to solar panel production using the latest technologies, including a project to build a solar power station connected to Uganda's national grid as part of Egypt's Nile Basin initiative.
