Egypt's mining sector recorded a sharp rise in production and revenues during fiscal year 2024/2025, with total gold and silver sales surging 57 per cent year-on-year to $1.54 billion, Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy said Tuesday. Speaking at the opening of the fourth Egypt Mining Forum in Cairo, Minister Badawy said gold and silver output reached nearly 640,000 ounces, marking a 14 per cent increase from the previous year. The sector also produced about 26 million tons of ores and mining products, up 39 per cent year-on-year, while exports reached 1.4 million tons, generating $52.5 million in export revenues. Total revenues from mineral resource development rose 131 per cent to approximately $446 million, he added, noting that gold sales were a major contributor to the increase. The minister credited recent structural and legal reforms, including the transformation of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) into an independent economic entity, for helping unlock growth across the sector.
