Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy denied reports of a fire at any national power substation on Thursday, following viral social media posts suggesting a major incident. In a statement, the ministry clarified that a small transformer kiosk—supplying three streets in the Shabramant area of Giza—had caught fire beneath a residential building. The 1-megawatt unit, known locally as "Wust El-Balad," was quickly extinguished with no casualties or damage. Emergency generators were deployed to immediately restore electricity to affected homes. The statement emphasised that the incident was minor and did not require ambulance services. The ministry warned against the circulation of inaccurate information, urging media and the public to rely on official sources. The statement comes as the government increases efforts to counter online disinformation and reinforce confidence in the country's energy infrastructure. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
