Egypt's Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA), affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Red Crescent Society to strengthen environmental consultancy and ensure the safe and legal management of waste across the organisation's branches and facilities. The agreement aims to bolster the Red Crescent's capabilities in waste classification, source segregation, and secure disposal, in line with national environmental laws. It also facilitates waste recycling through licensed entities and ensures the environmentally compliant disposal of non-recyclable and hazardous waste. The partnership will allow the Red Crescent to draw on the technical and advisory expertise of WMRA and the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency to assess the environmental impact of its operations and implement best practices for handling waste, particularly from administrative offices, mobile clinics, warehouses, and emergency relief activities. Under the memorandum, WMRA will offer oversight and technical support, including waste categorisation, safe storage guidelines, and compliance with environmental standards for current and future projects. In turn, the Red Crescent will be responsible for identifying and collecting waste from its various sites, sharing data with WMRA, applying the agency's technical recommendations, and ensuring coordination with officially licensed recycling and disposal entities.
