Telecom Egypt, in partnership with global subsea data systems provider SubCom, has completed the dual landings of the SEA-ME-WE-6 subsea cable system in Egypt, according to a disclosure to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) on Wednesday. The two landings — in Port Said on the Mediterranean coast and Ras Ghareb on the Red Sea — represent a significant milestone in enhancing global connectivity through Egypt's strategic geographic position. The company established the connection between the two coastal sites through resilient and diversified terrestrial crossing routes. With the landings now complete, Egypt has fulfilled its role in the SEA-ME-WE-6 system's deployment, reinforcing its status as a central hub in international telecommunications infrastructure. The SEA-ME-WE-6 system, the sixth generation of the Southeast Asia–Middle East–Western Europe cable series, stretches 21,700 kilometres and links Singapore (Tuas) to France (Marseille), transiting Egypt overland. Once operational, the system is expected to boost data capacity and connectivity across Africa, Asia, and Europe via 17 landing points. The project is supported by a global consortium of 16 major subsea cable operators, including Telecom Egypt, Microsoft (United States), Orange (France), Singtel (Singapore), and others from Bahrain, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. According to the EGX filing, SubCom served as the project's main contractor, overseeing engineering, route design, manufacturing, and installation. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M.
