South Korea's industrial production declined by 1.1 per cent in May 2025 from the previous month, driven by contractions in manufacturing, construction, and service sectors, according to data released by the national statistics agency. The seasonally adjusted Index of All Industry Production dropped to 112.5, down from 113.7 in April. The mining and manufacturing segment posted a 2.9 per cent decline, with manufacturing alone falling by 3.0 per cent. While the construction activity decreased by 3.9 per cent and the service industry saw a marginal 0.1 per cent decline. Public administration, however, rose by 0.8 per cent, partially offsetting the broader industrial downturn. On an annual basis, the all-industry index slipped 0.8 per cent compared to May 2024, reflecting weakness in the construction sector, which saw a sharp 20.8 per cent year-on-year drop, according to the announcement. Conversely, industrial production increased by 0.2 per cent, and manufacturing rose 0.2 per cent. The service sector edged up 0.1 per cent, while public administration contracted by 4.1 per cent from a year earlier. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Download
