Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat met with Managing Director at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Saadia Zahidi on the sidelines of the Forum's Annual Meeting held in Tianjin, China, from June 24 to 26 under the theme "Entrepreneurship for a New Era". The meeting focused on advancing the Letter of Intent signed last January during the Davos meetings to develop Egypt's Future of Growth Accelerator. The initiative aims to support Egypt's economic development efforts by drawing on insights from the WEF's Centre for the New Economy and Society. The two sides also discussed ongoing cooperation between WEF and technical teams from the Ministry of Planning to operationalise the accelerator in the coming period. Al Mashat highlighted the importance of aligning the accelerator with Egypt's forthcoming national economic narrative, which seeks to shift towards a growth model led by the private sector and tradable, export-oriented sectors, while also aiming to boost foreign direct investment and localise industry.
