China's services sector continued its recovery in May 2025, with the Index of Services Production rising 6.2 per cent year on year, accelerating by 0.2 percentage points from the previous month, official data showed on Monday. Notable year-on-year growth was recorded in information transmission, software and IT services (11.2 per cent), leasing and business services (8.9 per cent), and wholesale and retail (8.4 per cent), according to the release. Over the first five months of the year, the Index of Services Production increased by 5.9 per cent year on year. Business revenue for service enterprises above the designated size rose by 7.2 per cent in the January–April period. In May, the Business Activity Index for Services stood at 50.2 per cent, up 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, while the Business Activity Expectation Index for Services rose to 56.5 per cent. Sectors including railway and air transportation, postal services, telecommunications, broadcasting, satellite transmission and internet software and IT services remained in the high expansion range at 55.0 per cent and above.
