Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly urged on Wednesday the integration of private sector partners in managing and operating the country's newly developed textile factories to boost efficiency and safeguard public investments. During a Cabinet meeting, Minister of Public Enterprises Mohamed Shimi announced plans to revitalise Egypt's textile sector to regain leadership in spinning, weaving, and apparel manufacturing and attract more investments. Shimi said nearly 30 factories across seven affiliated companies are being developed on a combined area of one million square metres, according to an official statement published by the Cabinet on Wednesday. The first phase of the plan has been completed, while 70 per cent of the second phase is finished and due for completion later this year. The third phase is 54 per cent complete and scheduled to be finalised by April 2026. Shimi added that negotiations are underway with foreign investors — including Chinese and Turkish firms — to manage and operate the upgraded factories, citing their expertise in production, operations, and export.
