Egypt's unemployment rate edged down to 6.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, marking a slight decline of 0.1 per cent from the previous quarter, as per a report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS). The report showed an increase of 1.0 per cent in the labour force, reaching 33.447 million individuals compared to 33.124 million in the previous quarter. This workforce is divided between urban centres around 14.689 million individuals and rural areas about 18.758 million people. Egypt's unemployment rate among men dropped to 3.6 per cent in the reporting quarter, down from 3.9 per cent in the previous quarter of 2024 and 4.4 per cent in the same period a year earlier, according to the report. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among women saw a slight decrease, reaching 16.4 per cent in the reporting quarter, compared to 16.6 per cent in the previous quarter and 16.5 per cent in the corresponding period a year earlier.
