The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) signed a new agreement with Harbour Energy to expand exploration and production operations at the onshore Disouq gas field in the Nile Delta, the Egyptian Cabinet announced on Wednesday. The deal grants joint venture company DISOUCO rights to operate in an extended area under improved commercial terms. The revised framework aims to boost drilling activity in both the current concession and the newly added acreage, enhancing production and supporting long-term growth. Disouq gas field, operated by DISOUCO—a partnership between Harbour Energy subsidiary Wintershall Dea Nile and EGAS—has been producing gas since 2013, playing a vital role in meeting Egypt's rising energy needs. The project has also achieved significant environmental milestones, including eliminating routine flaring and cutting emissions intensity. In late 2022, Harbour Energy made a gas discovery in the East Damanhour exploration area, west of the Disouq development concession. Thanks to the site's proximity to the central processing plant, production began swiftly in September 2023.
