European shares showed mixed performance on Monday, as investors awaited key economic data from the eurozone on Thursday. Germany's inflation rate eased to 2.2 per cent in April, in line with preliminary figures, while Spain's inflation also showed a decline. The European Central Bank, which has cut interest rates seven times in the past year, is expected to continue its easing cycle at its June meeting. The pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.20 per cent at 7:55 GMT. Germany's DAX saw a slight increase of 0.02 per cent, while France's CAC 40 lost 0.36 per cent. The UK's FTSE 100 edged up by 0.01 per cent, and Spain's IBEX 35 rose by 0.46 per cent. Market sentiment was also boosted by news of a trade deal between China and the US, which has helped major equity markets recover from recent losses.
