Egypt's central bank governor met with a senior Chinese delegation in Cairo on Tuesday as the two countries look to deepen economic and financial collaboration under China's Belt and Road Initiative. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), received Sun Shuo, Deputy Mayor of Beijing, and his delegation at the CBE's headquarters to discuss strengthening bilateral ties. Talks focused on expanding joint efforts in banking and finance as Egypt seeks to bolster its role in regional development and global trade. "The historical relationship between Egypt and China provides a solid foundation for growing cooperation, particularly in the banking and economic sectors," Abdalla said, according to a central bank statement. The visit comes amid Egypt's broader push to attract foreign investment and position itself as a strategic partner in major global initiatives like the BRI. Both sides highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and high-level exchanges to support mutual growth. China has become an increasingly influential economic partner for Egypt, with cooperation expanding across infrastructure, energy, and trade sectors.
