Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday attended the graduation ceremony of a new cohort of imams who completed a comprehensive training programme at the Egyptian Military Academy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf). Sisi said the newly graduated imams would carry the responsibility of spreading awareness and values of mercy and tolerance, highlighting their role as beacons of enlightened religious discourse. The president added that the state has worked to develop their scientific, cultural, and behavioural skills to ensure effective engagement with the public. The training, developed by experts in psychology, sociology, media, and other fields, aimed to equip imams with the tools to address contemporary challenges while maintaining the core principles of Islam. Sisi stressed the importance of action over words, urging the use of mosques not only for worship but also as educational hubs. He also called on imams to promote neighbourly conduct, family values, and Arabic language preservation, positioning them as ambassadors of peace and responsible religious leadership. He encouraged them to follow the example of Imam Al-Suyuti, who authored over 1,160 books, and affirmed Egypt's continued role as a centre of moderate Islam. The president concluded by extending his condolences over the passing of Pope Francis, describing him as a significant figure whose loss is felt by humanity.
