Egypt recorded its lowest population growth rate during the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period in both 2024 and 2023, highlighting continued progress in curbing demographic expansion nationwide, the Egyptian Cabinet reported. According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt's population rose from 104.4 million in January 2023 to 107.2 million in January 2025. This translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.34 per cent — down from 1.4 per cent in 2024 and 1.6 per cent in 2023 — reflecting the positive impact of the country's population policies. The slowdown in population growth coincided with improving economic indicators, as Egypt's real GDP expanded by 3.5 per cent in the first quarter of the 2024/2025 fiscal year, up from 2.7 per cent in the same period the year before.
