Egypt urges more support for disabled, highlights Gaza crisis at GDS25
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 03 - 04 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy delivered the country's address at the third Global Disability Summit (GDS25) in Berlin, highlighting the role of technology in empowering persons with disabilities and promoting social inclusion.
According to a ministry statement on Thursday, Minister Morsy emphasised that modern technology is a key driver of economic and social integration for persons with disabilities (PwDs). She noted that Egypt's 2018 Disability Rights Law aligns with international conventions and ensures equal access to education, healthcare, employment, and public services.
The minister outlined Egypt's recent initiatives, including the National Network for PwD Services (Taaheel), which connects individuals with disabilities to training and job opportunities, and the issuance of 1.5 million integrated services cards granting access to essential benefits. She also highlighted financial inclusion efforts, such as accessible banking services for visually and hearing-impaired individuals.
Egypt, under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, continues to enhance accessibility, with December designated as the National Month for Persons with Disabilities to review policies and launch new programmes, Minister Morsy stated.
Addressing regional concerns, Minister Morsy called attention to the impact of the Gaza conflict on persons with disabilities, stating that Egypt is prioritising medical aid, rehabilitation, and humanitarian assistance for war victims. She reaffirmed Egypt's stance on the Palestinian issue, citing President Sisi's declaration: "Forcing the displacement of the Palestinian people is an injustice we cannot be part of."
