Egypt's Industrial Modernisation Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Industry, signed on Monday a cooperation protocol with the UAE's Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology to join the Industrial Transition Accelerator, the Egyptian Cabinet reported. The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions in the industrial and transport sectors in line with global Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations. Under the agreement, both parties will conduct joint studies, develop projects and programmes, and participate in bilateral and multilateral forums to enhance industrial cooperation through various initiatives. The signing took place on the sidelines of the fifth meeting of the Higher Committee for Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development in Doha, Qatar, attended by Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, and the UAE's Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Sultan Al Jaber. The Industrial Transition Accelerator is a non-profit initiative funded by the UAE and Bloomberg Philanthropies. It supports a global alliance of leaders and major companies committed to decarbonising heavy industry and transport—two of the largest sources of carbon emissions worldwide.
