Egypt's agricultural exports hit record $10.6b – minister
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 02 - 02 - 2025

Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk revealed on Sunday that agricultural exports had reached a record $10.6 billion this year, a 17 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This surge in exports, encompassing both fresh and processed products, underscores Egypt's growing prominence in the global agricultural trade.
Speaking at a forum, Minister Farouk acknowledged the challenge of fragmented land holdings, involving over 3.2 million farmers, which hinders agricultural development. The government is actively addressing this issue by expanding contract farming systems and offering affordable financing options at a 5 per cent interest rate to enhance productivity.
The minister emphasised the government's ongoing investment in land reclamation projects in the New Delta, Upper Egypt, and Toshka regions. He stressed the importance of adopting modern farming techniques and efficient irrigation systems to boost productivity and maximise economic returns from agricultural exports.
Supporting small farmers and promoting value-added agricultural products are key government priorities. Minister Farouk encouraged greater farmer participation in contract farming systems, emphasising the potential for optimising land use, reducing waste, and fostering a more sustainable agricultural sector.
The government is also focusing on modern agricultural practices, organic farming, and streamlining export processes to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles. Minister Farouk reiterated the government's commitment to working collaboratively with farmers, prioritising investments in agriculture and revitalising agricultural extension services.
