Egypt invests EGP 48.5b in 272 electricity projects for new cities

Egypt's Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Sherif El-Sherbiny announced on Monday that significant infrastructure projects are underway in new urban communities.
A total of 272 electricity projects, valued at 48.5 billion Egyptian pounds, are either completed or in progress. Additionally, 757 water supply, sanitation, and road projects, spanning 485 km, are being implemented at a cost of 36.396 billion pounds. Furthermore, 142 telecommunication network projects, worth 2.1565 billion pounds, are currently underway.
These remarks were made during a review of utility sector projects in the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for 2024, as per a Cabinet statement.
Minister El-Sherbiny emphasised that the projects encompass a wide range of infrastructure developments, including electricity networks and stations, drinking water and sewage systems, and telecommunications networks across various new cities.
Amin Ghoneim, Deputy Chairman of the NUCA, provided specific details on the progress of these projects. He stated that 31 electricity network projects and three station and line projects have been completed, while 17 network projects have been assigned.
Furthermore, 334 drinking water projects, 321 sewage projects, and the construction and rehabilitation of 16 drinking water stations and 16 sewage treatment plants are currently underway.
