MSC to resume Suez Canal transit once tensions ease – CEO
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 14 - 02 - 2024

Switzerland's MSC will "immediately" return shipping through the Suez Canal as soon as the security situation stabilises in the Red Sea region, CEO Soren Toft told Head of the Suez Canal Authority, Admiral Osama Rabie, on Wednesday.
In a videoconference meeting with the CEO of MSC Group, Admiral Rabie discussed the latest developments in in the Red Sea as part of the Suez Canal Authority's (SCA) keenness to open lines of communication with its global partners.
"We are keen on continuous coordination with our clients to reach joint work mechanisms aimed at reducing the effects of the current crisis on global supply chains." Rabie said in a statement posted by the SCA's Facebook Page.
SCA chairman described the bilateral co-operation between the Suez Canal Authority and MSC Group as a successful model of extended strategic relations, expressing his understanding of the global shipping firm's security concerns which affect its navigation policies in the canal.
Toft, for his part, expressed his appreciation for coordination with the SCA to overcome the implications of the current situation in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab, which has negatively impacted global supply chains, delaying arrival of goods and commodities as a result of extended navigation times.
He stressed MSC's keenness to enhance co-operation with the Egyptian state and the Suez Canal during the coming period, referring to plans to inject more investments into promising logistics projects.
