The number of newly reported coronavirus cases worldwide registered a daily record this week with more than 100,000 new cases over the past 24 hours, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Almost two-thirds of the infections were reported in just four countries, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a press conference on Wednesday at the agency's Geneva headquarters. "We still have a long way to go in this pandemic." Most of new confirmed cases are coming from the Americas, followed by Europe and the Middle East, according to WHO's daily report. Tedros said the Organisation is "very concerned" about the rise in the number of cases in low- and middle-income countries. The U.S. reported 45,251 new infections on Tuesday, according to the WHO. Russia had the second-most reported cases Tuesday at 9,263, it added. There are now almost 5 million global coronavirus cases and around 325,000 deaths since the virus first emerged in Wuhan, China in late 2019, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
