No Coronavirus cases reported among Egyptian medical staff: Health Minister
26 out of 59 COVID-19 cases in Egypt have recovered, no need to suspend flights with Italy
Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 03 - 2020

As of now, 26 out of 59 coronavirus cases in Egypt have recovered after receiving the necessary medical treatment at quarantine hospitals, Egypt's Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said that five patients have fully recovered on Tuesday, and are in stable conditions at quarantine hospitals. They are receiving the needed treatment in accordance with the protocols of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Minister of Health Hala Zayed said in a press conference on Tuesday that no Coronavirus cases were reported among Egyptian medical staff at hospitals. She added that Egypt considers heavy measures to detect arrivals from countries most affected by the virus.
Zayed noted that Italy is witnessing the peak of infection, but that there is no need to suspend flights to/from there.
Italy, one of the most affected countries of the novel epidemic, has extended its emergency measures, including travel restrictions and a ban on public gatherings throughout the entire country, ordering people to stay home.
The number of confirmed coronavirus infections has approached 113,672 cases worldwide, while 4,012 people have died as a result of the epidemic.
Amid the panic over COVID-19, the Ministry of Youth and Sports suspended all sports events and mass gatherings without infringing on Egypt's international obligations.
The Egyptian Football Association announced holding all upcoming matches without stadium fans.
On Monday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly decided to suspend all events and large public gatherings until further notice, as part of the state's preventive measures against COVID-19.
This shall include events that accept large numbers of people or require movement among governorates. Concerned bodies will take the necessary procedures to ensure implementing the decision.
In China, where the infection has started, President Xi Jinping visited Wuhan for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus in the province in December. Xi 's visit came as a signal that the health crisis is coming under control.
The Chinese president began his visit at Huo-shen-shan hospital, one of the makeshift medical facilities treating patients of the infection. The Chinese government ordered the closing down of the makeshift hospitals in Wuhan due to the decline in the number of reported cases.
Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in a press conference on Monday night that responds to COVID19 are not about containment or mitigation – which is a false dichotomy. It's about both, he said, adding that all countries must take a comprehensive blended strategy for controlling their epidemics and pushing this deadly virus back.
"We are not at the mercy of the coronavirus. The great advantage we have is that the decisions we all make – as governments, businesses, communities, families, and individuals – can influence the trajectory of this epidemic," Ghebreyesus explained.
He noted further: "We need to remember that with decisive, early action, we can slow down the virus and prevent infections. Among those who are infected, most will recover.
"Over the weekend we crossed 100,000 reported cases in 100 countries. Now that it has a foothold in so many countries, the threat of a pandemic has become very real. But it would be the first pandemic in history that could be controlled."
