On Sunday Cairo International Airport authorities prevented Alaa Eddin al-Kahky, director of the Media Line advertising company, from traveling to England, in accordance with an attorney general decision to ban him from traveling. Media Line is the advertising agency for the satellite TV networks Al-Hayat and Orbit. Egypt's public prosecutor is currently investigating Kahky, who is accused of corruption and squandering public money. The Free Front for Peaceful Change had submitted a report in May accusing eight businessmen and public officials, Kahky among them, of profiteering and engaging in monopolistic advertising practices. The report alleged that former Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi had directly intervened to provide Media Line with advertisements on Egyptian radio and television. While finalizing passport procedures for passengers boarding a flight to London, officials discovered Kahky's name among those banned from travel, said sources at the airport. Three people accompanying him, including the editor-in-chief of the Egyptian newspaper Youm7, Khaled Salah, then canceled their travel plans and asked to leave the airport, the sources added.
