A governmental body issued a report Tuesday recommending the rejection of legal action seeking to cancel a new contract signed between the government and Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG). The contract concerns plans by TMG to construct a new city, to be named “Medinaty,” east of Cairo. Judicial sources said the Administrative Court received the State Commissioner's Authority report and decided to adjourn the case to 4 October. The report's findings are not obligatory, but a court may consider them when issuing a ruling. Lawyer Hamdy al-Fakharany had filed a lawsuit demanding nullification of the new contract, saying the Housing Ministry had reallocated lands for TMG in November with the same conditions of the first contract that the court had previously nullified. The Supreme Administrative Court's ruling, issued in September, withheld nullification of the old contract, which allocated 8000 feddans to TMG for the project, the lawsuit said. Its ruling also stipulated the sale of Madinaty land in a public auction. Talaat Moustafa is a prominent businessman and member of the disbanded National Democratic Party.
