Ministry to sell low-cost Sudanese meat

The Ministry of Agriculture will offer Sudanese meat at the ministry's outlets in Cairo, Giza and other governorates starting Saturday to mitigate high meat prices.
In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said 1 kilo of Sudanese meat will cost LE24 to LE29, while Egyptian meat costs between LE65 and LE80 per kilo.
The ministry will supervise the selling of the meat to prevent price manipulation and ensure consumers can get the meat at prices set by the ministry, especially before Ramadan.
The ministry also decided to supervise the importing of Sudanese meat to Egypt through the public authority for veterinary services and veterinarians affiliated with the ministry.
The statement also said ministry officials will handle selection of the animals, slaughtering and packaging as well as shipping to Egypt.
