An official source from the Arab League has sharply criticized the League Secretariat's decision to postpone the Baghdad Summit to March 2012, instead of May 2011. He said the move was “an unprecedented action”. The source, who requested anonymity, said the decision violated the league's regulations. He added that the request made by Iraq to postpone the Summit should have been presented by the General Secretariat at the Arab foreign ministers' emergency meeting for discussion before a decision was announced. The source went on to accuse the Secretariat of being “reckless” with regards to decisions issued by the Arab League. The source also criticized the decision to remove the discussion of the situations in Syria, Libya and Yemen from the agenda of the Arab foreign ministers' emergency meeting, which is slated for the middle of May. The source went on to say that the decision followed pressure from the United Arab Emirates to prevent any decisions being issued against Syria, where “extreme violence” is being exerted against protesters. Meanwhile, officials at the Arab League denied the accusations. They claimed that discussing the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen were never on the agenda of the meeting.
