Interrogations of former President Hosni Mubarak and sons Alaa and Gamal Mubarak might last six months, according to Taymour Mostafa, the head of the Administrative Prosecution. Earlier this week, the attorney general ordered the imprisonment of Mubarak and his two sons for 15 days pending investigations into allegations they are responsible for the deaths of protesters, abuse of power and misuse of public funds. Mubarak has been confined to Sharm el-Sheikh Hospital since suffering a heart attack this week. His two sons joined former officials who were detained earlier in Tora Prison in Cairo. The attorney general and the Illicit Gains Authority's decision to detain the three men gave Egyptians confidence that former regime officials are being prosecuted, giving the AG room to extend the period of pre-trial detention, Mostafa told BBC radio Thursday, pointing out that investigations may take six months. Concerning the scope of investigation, Mostafa said the former president and his son Gamal are charged with two types of crimes, inciting the killing of protesters, and illegally acquiring money, while Alaa, the elder son, is charged only with illicit gains. Former First Lady Suzanne Mubarak will be summoned for questioning regarding illicit gains, but the charges have not been specified, according to Mostafa. Mostafa also said criminal law allows prosecutors to interrogate Mubarak in the hospital if his condition is critical rather than moving him to another location.
