Cairo hospitals admitted 1200 people with injuries incurred during the Tahrir Square protests that took place between 2 and 4 February, said the Egyptian Health Ministry on Sunday. The injuries had been sustained during attacks on pro-democracy protesters by pro-government thugs armed with machetes, straight razors, clubs and stones. Newly appointed Egyptian Minister of Health Ahmed Farid said 111 out of the 1200 cases remained hospitalized and that around half of these are expected to be discharged within the coming two days. Meanwhile, General Director of Cairo University Hospitals Dr. Ashraf Hatem said Kasr al-Aini hospitals had received 30 people who had been killed during the protests, including five unidentified bodies and two central security policemen. Hatem told Al-Masry Al-Youm that 3402 people had been wounded during the protests with 394 cases admitted to the hospital, including 6 cases in intensive care, and 186 cases with wounds to the eye.
