The Cinema Culture Center will be screening five award-winning films by women from the Iranian Makhmalbaf family in March as part of its "Women in Film" series. The first three films are by director Samira Makhmalbaf--daughter of renowned filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf--who made her first film, "The Apple," at the age of 21, and became the youngest recipient of two Special Jury awards at the Cannes Film Festival for her subsequent works, "Blackboards" and "At Five in the Afternoon." The series will also include "Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame," directed by Hana Makhmalbaf, Mohsen's daughter, and "The Day I Became a Woman," the first film directed by Mohsen's second wife, Marzieh Makhmalbaf. The films will be screened every Wednesday at 7 PM, in the Farsi language with Arabic subtitles. Seating is limited, so viewers are advised to arrive early. 3 March: The Apple by Samira Makhmalbaf Best Film - International Feature Film Competition - Torino International Festival of Young Cinema Sutherland Trophy - British Film Institute Awards Best Film and Audiencde Award - Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema FIPRESCI Prize - Special Mention - Locarno International FIlm Festival 10 March: Blackboards by Samira Makhmalbaf Special Jury Prize - Cannes Film Festival Grand Jury Prize - American Film Institute Festival Special Mention - Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema 17 March: At Five in the Afternoon by Samira Makhmalbaf Jury Prize and Prize of Ecumenical Jury - Cannes Film Festival Golden Peacock - International Film Festival of India 24 March: Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame by Hanna Makhmalbaf Crystal Bear and Peace Film Award - Berlin International Film Festival Special Prize of the Jury - San Sebastian International Film Festival Best Film - Asian Film Awards 31 March: The Day I Became a Woman by Mordia Makhmalbaf Silver Hugo for Best First Film - Chicago International Film Festival 'CinemAvvenire' Award for Best First Film and UNESCO Award - Venice Film Festival Discovery Award - Toronto International Film Festival The Cinema Culture Center 36 Sherif St., Downtown Cairo Tel: (02) 2392-7460 Film screenings begin at 7 PM
