List of Fortunes
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 08 - 11 - 2008

Your Excellency, Your Guide, we want full transparency. We need to know where the Muslim Brotherhood (MB)'s money go and how much money was confiscated from brother Khairat (Khairat al-Shatir)'s and brother Malek (Hassan Malek)'s companies.
We need to know the group's budget, who is in charge of it and who manages it. For if we are a group that makes sacrifices for the sake of God, our means must agree with Allah's law. We belong to the group and need to know what follows.
First, how big is the MB's monthly and annual income?
Second, how much does this group spend?
Third, who choose the fields where to spend?
Fourth, who decides the names of members to be given full-time action allowance and what are the reasons of that allowance?
Fifth, what are the projects that the group is involved in? Are there any alternatives in case of confiscation?
These are five legitimate questions raised by five young MB members at Sharabiya to their Guide Akef. The message was published (with a photo of it) only by Amer Mahmoud in last Monday's issue of Al-Ahrar daily newspaper under the title “Lists of fortunes within the group”. It contained lists of salaries and the names of the group's money-making leaders.
The group will certainly accuse Amer and Al-Ahrar of lying as it always does and will deny the documents. But there is no problem. What is important is transparency.
Below is a quotation from the message and I put no comment awaiting denial:
“In the name of Allah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful. Your Eminence the General Guide, peace be upon you.
We are a group of young people from Sharabiya. We joined the Muslim Brotherhood, we believe it is the group that will restore the glory of religion and we still believe in our group and its righteousness.
One day we read an interview with (former) brother Abdel Sattar el-Miligi in which he said some senior brothers in the group's Guidance Office and in some regions get full-time action allowance and that these funds are sometimes too large. He also said the brothers had been making money from their positions inside the organizations. We of course realized that this talk was meant to tarnish the group's image.
But brother Khalid Gamal confirmed the story to us. Something caused our heads to whirl. Brother Magid Zumur, and you know him, has been given a pickup truck which he rents and makes money from. He also receives a full-time action allowance of LE 1,000 per month, according to Dr. Khalid.
Our great instructor, Hamdi Ibrahim, gets LE 3,000 per month; yet, he is a well-to-do person. Dr. Essam el-Eryan gets LE 4,000 per month. Brother Ahmed Umar Bagnub gets LE 3,000. And it seems that full-time action allowance for the group's area officials is the same: LE 3,000.
And it was painful for us to learn that top senior leaders get unimaginable sums. Sheikh el-Khatib (the group's mufti) gets LE 12,000 a month because the group demanded him to end his work in the Gulf and be ready to preach in Egypt.
At the time, this story was acceptable because the man was asked to leave his work in the Gulf. But now, why is he still given full-time action allowance? Is this religiously licit or not?
It is also said that Mr. Abdel Aziz Abdel Qader in Sharkia Governorate gets LE 3,000 a month although he is a retired inspector.
The same applies to Husam Abu-Bakr and great brother Saad Lashin. Why does he get LE 5,000 a month as full-time action allowance? As for our great instructor Mohamed Hilal, he gets LE 6,000.
We hope you will be large-hearted, as Dr. Khalid Gamal confirmed to us and swore that you, like Sheikh el-Khatib, get LE 12,000.
