Truck drivers and owners continued their strike for the fourth day yesterday in Cairo and other governorates. They have clashed with the security services that arrested a large number of them, protecting the trucks that did not take part in the strike. The worst clashes took place in the city of Sefta in Gharbia, where 46 drivers were arrested. While there was news of ending the strike in Port Said, four drivers were arrested in Beni Suef and 18 others in Sharkia, bringing the total number of arrests to 57. Kamal el-Mongi, First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, said the problem may be solved soon, as there are intensive negotiations between the representatives of the Ministries of Transport, Trade and Industry and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce and the truck owners. The negotiations continued until the newspaper went to the press.
