By coincidence and due to philanthropy, the new children's cancer hospital was visited on Wednesday evening by two of the greatest leaders of Islamic and Christian religious institutions in Egypt, Endowments Minister Mahmud Hamdy Zakzouk and Pope Shenouda the Third, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Saint Mark Cathedral. Dr. Sharif Aboul Naga, the director of the hospital, said that the visits of the two men were separate and pointed out that the two men toured various sections of the hospital and gave toys and other presents to the children. Both of them congratulated the children – Muslims and Christians – for the Greater Bairam and Christmas. In a statement to Al Masry Al Youm, he pointed out that the two guests said they were very happy to meet the sick children and wished them all a speedy recovery. He added that Dr. Zakzouk promised to donate a large sum of money to the hospital without specifying it, while Pope Shenouda sent a LE 200,000 a check as a donation. For his part, Anba Marcus, the Bishop of Shubra Al Kheimah and head of the media committee of the Orthodox Church, said the donation by Pope Shenouda to the children's cancer hospital is nothing new. He added that the Pope always makes donations to any charitable projects he hears about. He also added that the sum of money donated by the Pope came from the account allocated to sick people, as the Pope does not have a special account of his own like Bishops but indeed other accounts for the Church, the poor and the sick. He then affirmed that these funds are not mixed with each other.
