The judicial committee supervising the Bar Association elections has on Wednesday announced the final candidates for the elections slated for May 23. It has disqualified 12 lawyers, of which three were running for chairman, while four others have conceded their candidacy. Mokhtar Noah told Al-Masry Al-Youm that his disqualification was political and illegal, accusing the committee of bias to another candidate. Tharwat el-Kharbawi demanded determining the competent body that should oversee the elections as to whether it is the Court of Appeal or the Court of South Cairo. The candidates will begin their campaigning next week, while the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Muslim Brotherhood Group (MB) have not yet announced their candidates for chairman, fearing the elections would be postponed when the Administrative Judicial Court decides on May 10 on the appeals that some lawyers filed to stop the elections.
Meanwhile, 200,000 election cards were printed and distributed to the branches of the syndicate in preparation for the elections.
