Published in Almasry Alyoum on 02 - 06 - 2009

The judicial committee headed by Chancellor Farouk Sultan supervising the elections in the lawyers' syndicate declared yesterday at dawn the final results of the syndicate elections for the First Instance and the public seats on the level of the republic after announcing Hamdi Khalifa won the position of chairman.
The Sharia committee, represented by the Muslim Brotherhood, has won nine of fifteen seats of the syndicate association. While the National list has won three seats and the remaining three seats were distributed among members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the independents.
Chancellor Farouk Sultan, the head of the judicial committee supervising the elections, announced the final result. On the public level, Ahmed Seif al-Islam Hassan al-Banna, Dr.Mahmoud Al-Sakka, Mohamed Toson, Dr. Ahmed Almelegy, MP Saad Abboud, Asim Naseer, Mohamed Aldamati, Ibrahim Zareef and Mohiuddin Hassan Mahmoud of the Muslim Brotherhood list have won. The National List, the NDP
and the independents list won six seats on the public level by Said Abdel-Khalek, Khaled Abu Kerisha andAbdusalam Keshek ( The National List) , Omar Haridi (NDP), Gamal Swede and Yahia Altony (The independents).
On the Primary seats level, the Muslim Brotherhood Gamal Hanafi (South of Cairo), Mamdouh Ahmed Abu Bakr Doh (North Cairo Court), Mohamed Abdel-Wahab (Alexandria ), Hisham Alcolmy(Giza), Shawky Daoud( Sixth of October), and Mukhtar Alashri (Gharbia), Atif Shahab (Menoufiya), and Taha Abou Amama (Menya) have won.
On the governorate level,  Mohammed Abu Taleb (Giza), Ismail Salam (Helwan), Alaa Alnahas «Baheira», Medhat Badawi (Kafr al Sheikh) and Hussein Algamal (Qaliubiya), Hisham Abu Yusuf (Damietta), Mohamed Mokhtar (Fayyoum), and Said Ali( Suez), and Hassan Ouda( the southern Sinai), and Rashad Algendi ( North Sinai), Al- Saaed Zaki(Dakahliya), Alsaid Hassan( Port Said), Mohamed Farghali( Beni Suef)Ibrahim Qasim ( Ismailia), and Mohamed Fsaa( Assiut), Abdel-Salam Abdel-Rahim( Sharkia), Abdul Majid Haroon( Qena), and Yousef Rashid(Aswan), Safwat Youssef( Red Sea),and Saif Al-Nasr Hamad(Sohag) have won.
Hamdi Khalifa, who won the position of the chairman, has slaughtered an ox before the gate of the syndicate and the lawyers carried him to the office saying: "Darling Hamdi Khalifa it is you the chairman" and "long live Hamdi Khalifa." This was followed by a press conference in which Khalifa has confirmed that he will cooperate with the others and will not dismiss anyone.
He called on the general assembly to watch the new council as it is the most powerful monitoring body. He pointed that he would work to activate the disabled legal texts so that the lawyers make use of and the syndicate can get a large amount of money.
He was asked by the journalists how much he would allow anti-government activities, demonstrations and whether he would just provide services. "I'll allow them, but on conditions that they stay away from propaganda and work seriously" he answered.
Hundreds of MB lawyers had demonstrated inside the court headquarters. They had chanted slogans calling for the results to be announced after they had been put off several times, and had also attacked the NDP Organization Committee, chaired by Ahmed Ezz.
They chanted slogans such as: "Don't treat the MB unjustly", "Declare the results, you judges, without any fear", "Results come from the ballet boxes, not from up above" and "Tell the Organization Committee this is the Bar Association".
The Sharia Committee said the results had been manipulated, especially at the public level and with regard to the governorates.
In a statement, the committee said there was an intentional conspiracy and pointed out that it would respond swiftly and firmly to the decision to devoid it of seven seats.
Abdel Maguid Haroun Abou Aid, the winner of the seat Qena Court constituency, said the elections had been carried out without any problems.
He pointed out that the new council would soon be formed after several meetings with the other winners.
He also called on lawyers to stay away from political affiliations and to focus on providing services to the lawyers.

Meanwhile, a new crisis is looming on the horizon at Giza Bar Association after three of the sub-association council (Hamdi Khalifa, Shawky Dawood and Hisham El-Kawmi) won the elections. The council is made up of six members, seven with the president.
According to the law, the three winners have to resign from the sub-council and Aboul Naga el-Mahrazi, leading NDP figure and council deputy president, shall be promoted to chargé d'affaires of the bar.
At the same time, Yahiya Aboul Magd and Mohameed Makawi (MB) should become members of the council since they won most of the votes.
Some lawyers, though, said this option would be rejected by a large number of lawyers who would seek to organize fresh elections for the council, especially after its mandate is over.
