Cairo - President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated newly elected Prime Minister Leo Varadkar on Monday and expressed his wish to strengthen relations with Ireland in various fields, especially concerning economy and trade. Expressing his desire for working hand in hand with President El-Sisi, Varadkar said during a phone call with El-Sisi that he's proud of the ties between the two countries and that he's looking forward to ongoing bilateral relations. Egyptian-Irish prisoner Ibrahim Halawa was arrested by Egyptian police during Al-Fatah Mosque clashes in August 2013. El-Sisi stressed the independence of Egypt's judiciary and pledged to uphold Halawa's rights. According to BBC, 38-year-old Varadkar is the youngest PM in the history of Ireland. He won the elections and the leadership of Fine Gael political party last June.
